India-born legendary Ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan died today at a private clinic in Sindh's provincial capital Karachi, Pakistan. He was 84.
Hassan, who had millions of fans in India and Pakistan, had been admitted to the Agha Khan Hospital in the southern port city of Karachi some days ago. He had been in a serious condition and was on ventilator.

India's inflation moved up to to 7.55 percent, fastest pace this year in May, driven by higher food and fuel prices, impeding chances of a rate cut by the RBI at its review next week. Inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), was 7.23 percent in April.
Today's inflation number is the last economic data before the Reserve Bank of India's rate review on June 18.

PARIS: A plan to build the biggest land-based optical telescope in the world has cleared an important hurdle, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) announced late Monday.
Two-thirds of ESO's governing council gave full or provisional approval for the so-called European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), which opens the way to starting work on the project, it said in a press release.
