WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama paid $98,169 in taxes on $481,098 in adjusted income last year, tax returns the White House released Friday show. They paid an effective federal income tax rate of 20.4 percent and donated significantly less to charity than they did the year before.

Recovery hopes fade as factory output, exports contract

NEW DELHI: Dashing hopes of recovery, the factory output declined by 1.9 per cent in February while exports dipped by 3.15 per cent in March, prompting the industry to demand an immediate rate cut by the Reserve Bank to boost the economy.

The industrial output, which had shown some signs of recovery in January, again entered the negative territory mainly due to 3.7 per cent contraction in the manufacturing sector, according to data released by the government.
