Singapore: A Singapore-based telecom company which promised to "end phone bills for everyone, everywhere" has developed a new version of calling app that let users in countries, including India, to make free international and domestic calls.
Gentay Communications has developed app Nanu which let people make international phone calls without the availability of 3G networks in India, its largest market with 1.6 million users.
"The Nanu phone app can operate seamlessly on 2G networks, and function on ultra-low bandwidth, utilizing only 105 kb of data per minute, compared with other apps which consume between 875 kb and 740," said Martin Nygate, Founder and CEO of Gentay Communications.
"A year ago, we promised the end of phone bills for everyone, everywhere. We are progressively continuing the movement towards that by launching version 2.0 of nanu," assured Nygate.
"We are committed towards building a better future for people living in lesser developed areas of emerging economies like India. In such areas a few rupees in savings on phone bills can make a huge difference in peoples’ lives," he said.
Most of the phone call costs are covered by advertisements, played over the ringtones during call connect processes using the firm's specially designed technology.
"Our aim is to empower people and give them the ability to make free phone calls from and to anywhere in the world, irrespective of whether they have 3G connectivity or not,” said Nygate.
Nunu is currently offering 20 free phone calling credits per day to India for making domestic and international calls.
