New Delhi: In a rare gesture, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. While addressing the House on the issue of net neutrality, Rahul said it is for the first time that a US President has praised an Indian Prime Minister.

"I saw Time magazine in which US President Barack Obama had written an article praising Narendra Modi. For the first time in 60 years, US President has praised an Indian Prime Minister. And US President has never praised anyone like this after (the last leader of the now defunct USSR) Mikhail Gorbachev. US President used to praise Gorbachev because he helped the United States," Rahul said.

Rahul was referring to the article in Time Magazine wherein Obama wrote the article titled 'India's reformer-in-chief'. Obama has described Modi's life story "from poverty to Prime Minister" as one that reflects the dynamism and potential of India's rise.

"Today, he's the leader of the world's largest democracy, and his life story-from poverty to Prime Minister-reflects the dynamism and potential of India's rise," Obama said.

Mikhail Gorbachev is the Soviet Union's last leader. USSR disintegrated in 1991.
