Manmohan Singh wished her all success in leading her country "to a future of sustained security and prosperity", the Indian embassy in Seoul quoted the prime minister as saying in a statement.

The prime minister said India and South Korea have established a strategic partnership, based on "convergent interests and expanding opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation" that provided a strong foundation for deepening bilateral engagement, especially in trade and investment.

In 2013, the two countries would celebrate 40 years of establishment of diplomatic relations.

Manmohan Singh called for intensifying efforts to further strengthen the relationship for mutual benefit and for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

He said he was looking forward to working with Park and her government.
