New Delhi: Monetary support for building rural toilets in the country will be enhanced, Minister for Rural Development, Drinking Water and Sanitation Nitin Gadkari said Tuesday.

Speaking at a national workshop here on sanitation and drinking water, Gadkari said: "For individual household latrines, the amount will be raised from Rs.10,000 to Rs.15,000 while Rs.54,000 will be given instead of Rs.35,000 for school toilets."

"Similarly, the amount for anganwadi toilets will be Rs.20,000 in place of Rs.8,000 and the amount proposed for community sanitary complexes is Rs.6 lakh from the existing Rs.2 lakh… we need to build low-cost toilets that last 30-40 years," he added.

Gadkari said he had prepared a cabinet note for raising the budget to achieve the goal of sanitation for all by 2019.

To address the problem of providing clean drinking water, the minister said a new scheme will be launched in the next two months to address the issue.
