NEW DELHI: A separate copyright office and a permanent copyright Board are being set up to provide better services to authors, performers and creators of various works, HRD minister MM Pallam Raju said on Monday.
Launching a web portal with e-filing facility for copyright registration at a function here, he said the office will establish a unique identity and will create a distinct relationship with the public.
The interactive copyright web portal having facility of e-filing of applications with payment gateway is also going to be the major step in delivering public services in a more efficient and effective manner.
Raju, who also unveiled a logo of the copyright office, said his ministry has already initiated the process for 'online search facility' for the users to see the details of works registered since 1958.
This will eliminate wasteful expenditure and save time and energy on long travels to come to copyright office here to search the copyright register.
Similarly, e-filing facility for registration of ISBN numbers is going to be operational in the current year and will assist authors and publishers in getting prompt services, he said.
"The pendency of copyright office in registering the work has been brought to zero and with the interactive e-portal having facility of e-filing application, it will be a great step in delivering services in efficient manner," he said.
With major amendments brought to the Copyright Act in 2012, he said a copyright enforcement agency council has been constituted last year to enforce provisions under the Act and stop piracy.
"This includes setting up of a copyright enforcement agency council in 2013, setting up of enforcement cells and appointment of nodal officers to deal with copyright enforcement issues. Cooperation of all is required in this endeavor," he said.
