NEW DELHI: The postmortem conducted on Anmol Sarna, who died in hospital after being found in a pool of blood on a street in Kalkaji, south Delhi, has confirmed that the 20-year-old NRI from the US was beaten up before his death.

Friends of the deceased NRI gathered at Kalkaji police station in Delhi.

Sarna was allegedly bashed up by his friends after they had consumed a psychotropic drug during a party at flat number 95 of South Park Apartments in Kalkaji on Friday night. Police said on Sunday evening that on the basis of fresh evidence, two of Sarna's friends and a couple of guards in the colony could be arrested in the next 24 hours. Cops have found bloodstains at the apartment as well as signs of violence.

DCP southeast P Karunakaran said Sarna's four friends were in a stupor brought about by LSD use and could not recall, for about 24 hours, what transpired during the party? Police are the complainants in the FIR, which was registered on the basis of the DD entry of the PCR call on Friday night. One person has been detained on the suspicion of having supplied the drug to the youths.

However, police are yet to ascertain the motive for the attack on Sarna. Dr Sudhir Gupta, professor and head of the forensics department at AIIMS, confirmed that Sarna's death was caused due to multiple head injuries. "The injuries have been caused by a blunt weapon," he said. Dr Gupta said that various biological samples from the body including blood and viscera have been preserved to corroborate further evidences.

The FIR says that five friends – Anmol, Shivang, Praneel, Madhav and Rhytham – were in Praneel's bedroom and had consumed food and drugs. However, Anmol began to behave violently. He picked up things from the kitchen and began to throw it around after which he ran out of the house screaming. The LCD TV in the house was found cracked by the police.

He was later made to lie down in the open to recover from the "bad trip" but he soon became restless again after which a guard apparently complained to Pranel's father about Anmol creating a ruckus. The police reached later and took Anmol to the hospital, where he died. What cops have not been able to ascertain is how Anmol's head and body had so many injuries?

The boys were so drugged and shocked in the first 24 hours, police say, that they were not able to give a correct account of things. This caused the initial delay. Sometimes they would say he fell but later report that he banged his head on the wall. They also blamed the guards for his injuries. The cops however are interrogating them to ascertain how there were blood spots on at least three of cars, at gate (number 1) and on the road.

LSD is regarded as the most psychoactive substance among party drugs and has been found to be sold at rave parties in NCR, a cop said. The friends have confessed to have bought the drug from a Noida-based dealer.
