TVK Party Chief Vijay meeting with Tamil Nadu Governor.

TVK Chief Vijay has reached Lok Bhavan to stake claim to form the Tamil Nadu government after securing the support of 121 MLAs, sources said.

Vijay is expected to submit a formal letter to the Governor seeking an invitation to form the government in what marks his third meeting with Raj Bhavan amid the ongoing political uncertainty in the state.

Sources said TVK has secured the backing of Congress, CPI, CPM, VCK and IUML, strengthening Vijay’s claim in the fast-evolving government formation battle.

121 MLAs Back TVK

  • TVK: 108
  • Congress: 5
  • CPI: 2
  • CPM: 2
  • VCK: 2
  • IUML: 2

Governor Yet To Decide

Sources familiar with developments said the Governor has so far not appeared fully satisfied with the rival claims emerging from different political parties.

Insiders said this prompted intense deliberations within the TVK leadership over possible next steps, with the party deciding to mount stronger political pressure in support of its claim.

On Thursday, in a dramatic move, TVK had internally conveyed that all 108 of its MLAs are prepared to resign if either DMK or AIADMK is invited to form the government despite TVK presenting majority support with allied parties.

Party insiders described the proposed mass resignation strategy as an attempt to frame the political battle around democratic legitimacy and numerical strength.

While Raj Bhavan has not yet issued any formal communication regarding the next government, political activity remained intense throughout the day, with senior leaders from several parties engaged in continuous discussions over alliance equations and the formation process.
