Indian motorcycles have announced the base price for their new 2022 range of Indian Chief motorcycles that were unveiled recently in the US. While the company had confirmed earlier that it would launch the new range of motorcycles in India in the second quarter of 2021. Now the company has announced that the range will begin at Rs 20.76 lakh and that bookings for the new 2022 Indian Chief have begun across Indian dealerships for a down payment of Rs 3.0 lakh. Interestingly, Indian have only announced a base price likely for the base-trim Chief, but are yet to announce specific prices for each motorcycle even on their official website.

The new generation comprises three “all-new” motorcycles (6 if you count the variants and special editions) namely the Indian Chief, the Chief bobber and the Indian Super Chief. While all three motorcycles are based on the same new platform they each will appeal to a slightly different rider, through slightly tweaked ergonomics. In terms of design, these three new motorcycles take a clear u-turn on the very periodic specific designs of the 2013 generation of motorcycles that came when Polaris first resurrected the brand in 2013. This time around the approach to design is more minimal with a black out theme replacing the generous use of chrome on the previous generation models.

Commenting on the price announcement, Mr. Lalit Sharma, Country Manager, Polaris India Pvt. Ltd said, “Our Chief lineup has a glorified history and is one of the iconic motorcycles of the Indian Motorcycle® portfolio. We are launching this model to pay tribute to the Indian Chief on completing 100 years in the market. We have priced the new Chief lineup keeping in mind the love of our customers for the model. We are looking forward to making history again for our new Chief lineup in the market.”

Mechanically all three motorcycles are likely to share a new steel-tube frame paired with a cast-aluminium rear subframe and will be powered by a Euro 5/BS6 compliant version of the Thunder Stroke 116 motor that displaces 1,890cc and makes 162Nm of peak torque. The lineup will share a list of new features including, a 15 litre fuel tank, bobbed rear fender, dual outboard preload-adjustable rear shocks, dual exhaust, LED lighting, keyless ignition, and Pirelli Night Dragon tires. Along with cruise control, Chief riders can adjust throttle response by selecting one of three ride modes: sport, standard or tour.
