President Pratibha Patil’s son and Congress MLA Raosaheb Shekhawat has been issued a notice by District Collector in linkage with seizure of Rs 1 crore unaccountable cash from Amravati where civic polls are underway.

On Wednesday the notices were also issued to the minister of state Rajendra Mulak, MPCC general secretary Ganesh Patil, city Congress chief Vasantrao Saurkar and Mulak’s PA Ashish Bodhankar, as per District Collector Rahul Mahiwal.

Mahiwal told that the hearing will happen on 21 Feb as their counsels had sought 5 days of time.

The seizured cash has been transferred in the city from Nagpur by 2 persons in a car on Sunday. Right after this, the Election Commission had led the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner to file a report about this happening.

Shekhawat rejected that the seized cash was unaccounted. He professed that the money was considered for circulation among the financially weak candidates for the local civic polls.

According to Shekhawat, “I had obtained funds from state Congress Committee for circulating them among 87 party candidates, who are mostly women and poor. Rs 1 crore was forwarded to me which was circulated at Rs 1 lakh per candidate and the rest of the money was considered for the district Congress committee.”

BJP city president Pradeep Shingore alleged, “Congress is making efforts to put an impression that it was a legal transaction and in this course it was ‘caught red-handed in the act’.
