Washington — The US government and corporate America alike have welcomed the Indian parliament's approval of foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail, saying it would spur investment in infrastructure and benefit the consumer.

"We believe direct foreign investment in retail will grow markets in India as it has in China, Brazil, and many other developing economies," State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters Friday.

Washington — The United States very much supports India taking a leadership in the security issues in and around the Indian Ocean and was looking for opportunities to interoperate with them, according to a top US commander.

President Barack Obama has directed "all of the parts of our government to seek a long-term security relationship, a partnership with India," Admiral Sameul J Locklear III, commander of United States Pacific Command (PACOM) told reporters Friday.

The Union government will notify the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, announced in 2007, by the end of the month, Chairman of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) and Water Resources Secretary D.V.
