Animal rights groups in Nepal are pleading for the life of a lovelorn elephant is being hunted down by an army execution squad. The male tusker, named Dhrube by locals, has been targeting humans on a killing spree in southern Nepal after being kept from potential mates and is suspected of killing up to 15 people over four years.

Along with Mr. Srinivasan, President Obama named 12 eminent researchers as recipients of the National Medal of Science and 10 extraordinary inventors for the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest honors bestowed by the U.S. government upon scientists, engineers, and inventors.
