Washington — The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon come out with new rules for the entry of foreign banks that may even allow them to take over Indian banks, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has said.

"That is going to be a big opening because one could even contemplate taking over Indian banks, small Indian banks and so on," he said at an event of the Institute of International Finance here Saturday.

"We're coming out with details on that in the next couple of weeks."

CHENNAI: India has detained an armed ship operated by a US maritime security company and the 35 people on board for failing to produce papers authorizing it to carry weapons and ammunition in Indian waters, the coast guard said on Sunday.

Coast Guard commandant Anand Kumar said the ship was stopped on Friday and was being held in the port of Tuticorin along with its 10 crew and 25 armed security guards until required documentation is submitted.

Abu Dhabi: Cricket's governing body launched the World Test Championship 2017 on Saturday aimed at preserving the primacy of the longer format of the game.

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad: The University of the West Indies' Seismic Research Center is reporting an earthquake hit Friday night northwest of Trinidad.

The quake measured magnitude 6.4 at a depth of 37 miles (60 kilometers).

The Seismic Research Center said it had received no reports of damage or injuries.

It was the strongest earthquake in Trinidad since 1997, when a magnitude-6.1 quake caused some damage on the island of Tobago north of Trinidad.
