Tennis: CoCo Vandeweghe fined $10,000 for foul-mouthed outburst at Australian Open

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – AMERICAN CoCo Vandeweghe has been hit with the largest fine of the Australian Open so far, drawing a $US10,000 penalty for an expletive-ridden outburst.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – AMERICAN CoCo Vandeweghe has been hit with the largest fine of the Australian Open so far, drawing a $US10,000 penalty for an expletive-ridden outburst.

The New Yorker was breached the code of conduct with unsportsmanlike conduct, accused mouthing obscenities in the direction of opponent Timea Babos during a testy first-rounder.

Video of the incident showed Vandeweghe shouting out, “F— you, you f—ing b—-”, to Babos and throwing her racquet in disgust. Suffering flu, Vandeweghe was clearly unhappy throughout the match..

With only four days of the tournament complete, five women and eight men have fallen foul of officialdom.

Nick Kyrgios has been fined $US3000 for unsportsmanlike conduct in the fallout to the Canberran’s comfortable opening-round Australian Open victory.

Kygios was heard telling a rowdy spectator to “shut the f … up” during a 6-1 6-2 6-4 rout of Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva.

Croat Borna Coric tops the men’s fines bulletin with a $US5000 penalty for racquet abuse during his defeat to Queenslander John Millman.

Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman and Romanian Marius Copil were fined $US2000 for the same offence.

Kazakh Alexander Bublik was hit with two $US1000 fines for audible obscenities during qualifying.

American Stefan Kozlov was penalised $US1000 for an audible obscenity in first-round qualifying.

Ukraine teenager Marta Kostyuk was hit with a $US25000 fine for receiving coaching during her second-round win over Victorian Olivia Rogowska.
