NEW DELHI – Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday hit back at Prime Minster Narendra Modi for banning the use of Rs 500 and Rs 1000s notes overnight.

Kejriwal accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of informing his associates and party members about this decision a week ago so that they could dispose of or invest the money.

Kejriwal asked Modi as to why he did not take any action against the Swiss account holders, whose account numbers he claimed that he had provided the Prime Minister at a press conference. Kejriwal said that he could not understand how banning Rs 1000 and introducing Rs 2000 would help in decreasing corruption.

Kejriwal said that in 2012, 648 Swiss bank account holders had been named. He said the Congress did not take any actions against these people and neither did the BJP government. He cited the example of poor working class people standing in queues outside banks and hospital among other institutions where the notes could be exchanged and said that no rich man with the possibility of having a Swiss account, like the Ambanis could be seen.

He talked about the effects of the overnight ban on the Rs 500 and 1000 notes on the working class people and said that has caused them a lot of inconveniences. He said that the Prime Minister himself knew where all the black money was (Swiss Banks) and still did nothing about it, for which "God won't forgive him".
